Photomontages for resource consent

A photomontage drops the proposed building into a photo taken on site, so council planners, neighbours and clients can see exactly how it will sit in the street. We match the camera, the scale and the light, then render the proposal into the view.

Illustrative or formal

Most resource consent applications for houses and small developments use illustrative photomontages: the proposal placed accurately into the photo by matching known features. For larger or contentious proposals, council may ask for a formal visual simulation with surveyed camera positions. Tell us which you need and we will price it to suit.

Photos that work

  • Take photos from where people will see the building: the street, the neighbour's side, a public reserve
  • Shoot at eye level with a standard lens, not a wide angle
  • Note where you stood and which way you faced
  • Avoid harsh midday shadows if you can

Questions we are asked

Who chooses the viewpoints?

Usually your planner or designer, sometimes at council's request. We can advise which views show the proposal fairly.

Can you take the photos?

No. We work from photos you or a local photographer take, and give you a short checklist so they are usable.
